Hippa Lodge Closure

Re: Hippa Island Lodge Update

As many of you are aware, the season for Hippa Lodge in 2019 was cancelled due to the uncertainties associated with the beaching event this past fall. Since that time, the damages to the facility, as suspected, were confirmed to be extensive to the point the facility has been written off

As a consequence, the Hippa Lodge barge will be closed permanently. Additionally, we are not planning to re-establish any future facilities at the Hippa location.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the CHN for its tremendous support during the operation which resulted from the grounding of Hippa Lodge this past September. Robert Russ and the other staff who worked to ensure that there was little if any environmental impact were invaluable. Their professionalism, dedication and capacity to work with various government departments was such an important contribution to our success in a trying situation. Each and every one of them represented the Nation commendably.

HaiCo staff are working to ensure employees affected by the Hippa closure are offered opportunities in other HaiCo Tourism operations such as Ocean House, Englefield, and Haida House.

Haawa/Ha’waa/Thank you.
