2024 Scholarship Details

The 2024 Haida Enterprise Corporation (HaiCo) Scholarship Program is now available for eligible Xaadáa | XaaydaGa Haida students. This program offers an annual value of up to $5,000, distributed among five awards of $1,000 each.

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be pursuing full-time studies in an accredited institution leading to a certificate, diploma, undergraduate degree, or a master's or doctorate degree
Applicants must be of Haida ancestry
Applicants must demonstrate a contribution to Haida communities on Haida Gwaii and commit to continuing their contributions to the well-being of the Haida Nation after completing their studies
Family members of HaiCo staff, employees, or board members, as well as CHN/SHN officials or staff, are eligible to apply and receive scholarships. However, they will not receive any special considerations based on that relationship. In cases where a conflict of interest arises within the scholarship review committee, the reviewer must declare the conflict and remove themselves from the selection process
High school graduates are encouraged to apply for the separate HaiCo bursary program administered by each high school. They should not apply to this scholarship program
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION
a 500-word maximum statement outlining:
How your studies align with HaiCo strategic plan goals, either by supporting specific business operations or enhancing business management and capacity for Haida people on Haida Gwaii; OR
How your study discipline contributes to the enhancement of Haida culture or language on Haida Gwaii; OR
How your studies will positively impact the cultural, environmental, social, and economic dimensions of Haida Gwaii, with an emphasis on practical application.
Include an expression of your commitment to return to Haida Gwaii after completing your studies.
Documentation of expected education costs for the year, including tuition, accommodation, travel, etc. Please include a breakdown of any received funds, such as scholarships, bursaries, or financial support from Band Councils or other sources.
A letter or other document from your educational institution confirming enrollment in a relevant course of study.
A copy of your most recent educational transcript.
A brief quote about your learning journey, your aspirations upon graduation, and where you envision your path leading.
A photo of yourself that we can share on social media if your application is successful.
