EXISTING AND RECRUITMENT
The following summarizes both the existing and forward-looking employment positions at HaiCo and its Group of Companies.
There are specific positions that are noted to require a professional designation, including a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) designation, and a Registered Forest Technician (RFT). The following education and experience are needed for each of these professional designations:
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA):
Obtain recognized undergraduate degree with specific subject area coverage or undergraduate degree and completion of CPA preparatory courses
Complete CPA Professional Education Program including passing the common final examination
Complete 30 months of work experience

Obtain recognized undergraduate degree

The Chief Forester reports directly to the executive team and is responsible for overseeing operations within the 193,000 hectares managed by Taan across six operating areas. Key responsibilities include:
Implementing strategic plans and goals.
Overseeing all aspects of forest management, including sustainability initiatives, planning, and reforestation.
Managing the forest stewardship and forest products divisions, as well as the management team.
Providing leadership, motivation, and direction to staff.
Establishing, communicating, and implementing standards for the management of Taan’s forest tenures and assets.
Developing the annual operating plan and budget, and monitoring performance throughout the year.
Overseeing the development, updates, and implementation of the Corporate Management System.
Leading strategic-level planning and permitting.
Communicating with stakeholders and external parties.
Maintaining working relationships with all strategic partners.
Assessing and managing risks.
Ensuring the health and safety of all operations.
Developing and implementing new and innovative stewardship programs.
Overseeing contract management and relationships with certification auditors.
Managing community relationships and proactively addressing public relations issues.

(Grade 4)
The Operations Steward reports directly to the Chief Forester and oversees operations within the 193,000 hectares managed by Taan across six operating areas. Key responsibilities include:
Ensuring the efficient and cost-effective delivery of fibre to dry land sorts, local mills, and users.
Providing mentorship to Taan Supervisors.
Acting as the principal liaison with Taan contractors to ensure compliance with Taan’s Corporate Management System (CMS).
Ensuring adherence to safety regulations, WorkSafe BC standards, the Haida Gwaii Land Use Objectives Order, the Forest Act, the Forest and Range Act, and Taan’s CMS.

The Office Manager / Account Clerk reports directly to the Chief Forester and is responsible for managing administrative and financial operations within the office. Key responsibilities include:
Overseeing the general operations of the office, including the flow of staff and visitors.
Ensuring adherence to corporate policies, including the standards of conduct outlined in the Employee Handbook
Developing and implementing office policies, procedures, and standards to guide office operations.
Maintaining a safe and pleasant office environment.
Entering and posting invoices and payments to customer and vendor accounts promptly.
Processing and paying approved bills from vendors in a timely manner.
Scanning and electronically filing invoices on the Taan server.
Accounting for all local value-added sales, including assessing eligibility requirements, preparing quotes and sales invoices, and collecting deposits.
Managing accommodations for Taan contractors and guests.
Calculating certified sales for invoices related to log and lumber sales.
Maintaining a certified credits tracking ledger.

The Operations Forester reports directly to the Chief Forester and is responsible for managing forestry operations and supporting various planning and regulatory activities. Key responsibilities include:
Managing the operations forester crew.
Scheduling site plan fieldwork and organizing write-up meetings for Taan’s Corporate Management System and Forest Stewardship Plan requirements.
Completing site plan and assessment reviews for contractors.
Assisting with higher-level operational planning, including the Forest Stewardship Plan and Land Use Order Objectives Strategies.
Approving, organizing, and ensuring the submission of complete road and cutting permit applications.
Tracking approvals for road and cutting permits.
Developing briefing notes for government use regarding development areas.
Assisting with salvage programs and permitting.
Supporting Cultural Feature Identification surveys as needed.
Organizing annual planning for silviculture activities for Taan and contractors.
Ensuring the completeness and compliance of silviculture activities.
Completing reporting requirements for silviculture obligations.
Conducting post-harvest assessments.
Managing regeneration and free-growing stands.

The Operations Forest Engineer reports directly to the Chief Forester and is responsible for managing engineering operations and ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and production standards. Key responsibilities include:
Managing engineering crews and contract engineering crews.
Ensuring production targets, quality of work, Taan Corporate Management System compliance, and safety objectives are met.
Preparing annual operating plans, layouts, and permit approvals to achieve production goals.
Completing block proformas.
Organizing and reviewing block development and layout.
Providing cost and appraisal data for cutting authorities.
Completing contractor assessment reviews.
Assisting with higher-level operational planning, including the Forest Stewardship Plan and Land Use Order Objectives Strategies.
Assisting with road permit and cutting permit submissions.
Supporting salvage programs and permitting.
Ensuring the completeness of bridge inspections.
Supporting Cultural Feature Identification surveys as needed.
Assisting with the annual planning of silviculture activities.

The Harvesting Supervisor reports directly to the Operations Manager and is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the effective execution of harvesting operations. Key responsibilities include:
Overseeing the implementation of contract responsibilities for harvesting contractors.
Implementing immediate corrective actions for unsafe acts, environmentally harmful activities, or incidents that may cause bodily harm, environmental damage, or property damage.
Participating in and delivering contract pre-works, including understanding plans and conducting walkthroughs with contractors.
Developing and executing action plans to address safety hazards, unsafe activities, and environmental issues.
Participating in safety, operational, and planning meetings.
Ensuring contractors adhere to contractual agreements and Taan’s standard operating procedures.
Ensuring the completion of pre-works, worksite inspections, and facility inspections.
Following through on action plans from investigations and inspections.
Participating in internal and external audits.
Ensuring compliance with harvesting utilization standards and adherence to harvesting plans.
Overseeing the proper startup and shutdown of camps.
Managing camp staff and contracts to ensure efficient camp operations.
Tracking camp costs against the budget.
Ensuring camp operations meet or exceed Taan’s Corporate Management System and standard operating procedures.

The Quality Control Supervisor reports directly to the Operations Manager and is responsible for overseeing quality control processes and ensuring compliance with contractual and regulatory standards. Key responsibilities include:
Overseeing the implementation of contract responsibilities for dry land sort contractors.
Implementing immediate corrective actions for unsafe acts, environmentally harmful activities, or incidents that may cause bodily harm, environmental damage, or property damage.
Developing and executing action plans to address safety hazards, unsafe activities, and environmental issues.
Participating in safety, operational, and planning meetings.
Ensuring contractors adhere to contractual agreements and Taan’s standard operating procedures.
Completing and following through on action plans from investigations and inspections.
Participating in internal and external audits.
Ensuring prompt and complete submission of inspection and investigation reports, including proper filing.
Overseeing the management, scaling, and quality control of Taan’s scale sites on Haida Gwaii.
Conducting a minimum of one audit per scaler per month to ensure accuracy and compliance with Taan’s specifications.
Ensuring compliance with provincial regulations, legislation, and acts at Taan’s dry land sorts.
Applying for and ensuring Scale Site designations and authorizations are in place prior to log arrival.
Managing hammers at each scale site and ordering replacements as needed.
Ensuring Taan meets quality targets for log delivery to the market.
Verifying that sort and grade specifications are met.
Conducting boom cut-off audits and performing regular inspections of bundles in the water to ensure accuracy.
Ensuring proper transportation documents are with carriers and that loads are marked as necessary.
Reviewing barge delivery successes and issues with key operational personnel.
Coordinating with the camp and barge company to schedule and order barges.
Visiting Taan harvest areas to ensure bucking specifications are met, log handling and quality standards are followed, and maximum value is achieved from each log.
Developing and distributing bucking cards as needed.
Issuing contract fines and stop-work orders as required.
Reporting and tracking milestones in sort(s) production.

The Roads Supervisor reports directly to the Operations Steward and is responsible for overseeing road construction and maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards. Key responsibilities include:
Overseeing the implementation of contract responsibilities for road construction and maintenance contractors.
Implementing immediate corrective actions for unsafe acts, environmentally harmful activities, or incidents that may cause bodily harm, environmental damage, or property damage.
Participating in and delivering contract pre-works, including understanding plans and conducting walkthroughs with contractors.
Developing and executing action plans to address safety hazards, unsafe activities, and environmental issues.
Participating in safety, operational, and planning meetings.
Ensuring contractors adhere to contractual agreements and Taan’s standard operating procedures.

Monitoring bridge and major culvert installations.
Ensuring the proper utilization of road materials, availability of rock quarries, special use permits, and ordering of culverts.
Conducting follow-up inspections after major weather events.

The Assistant Forester reports directly to the Chief Forester and is responsible for implementing stewardship projects and ensuring the fulfillment of silviculture obligations. Key responsibilities include:
Planning and implementing innovative stewardship projects that provide value to the Haida Nation.
Ensuring the fulfillment of silviculture obligations.
Leading enhanced silviculture crews to restore ecosystems and wildlife habitats.
Completing site plan fieldwork and ecosystem identification.
Supervising silviculture crews.
Conducting silviculture surveys and preparing related reports.
Assisting with the submission of cutting and road permits.

(Grade 3)
The Assistant Forest Engineer / CFI Surveyor reports directly to the Operations Forest Engineer and is responsible for conducting surveys and supporting the layout and planning of harvest areas. Key responsibilities include:
Completing Cultural Feature Identification (CFI) surveys of proposed harvest areas.
Preparing and submitting CFI reports.
Conducting layout of harvest areas and roads.
Performing reconnaissance of harvest areas.
Scheduling assessments.
Performing quality checks on contracted layout crews.

(Grade 3)
The Operations Assistant reports directly to the Operations Manager and supports the operations team across various forestry activities. Key responsibilities include:
Assisting the operations team with tasks related to forestry operations, silviculture, restoration, and cultural features identification.
Supporting the implementation of Taan’s safety systems for staff and contractors.

(Grade 3)
The Local Sales and Salvage Coordinator reports directly to the Operations Manager and is responsible for managing local log sales and salvage operations. Key responsibilities include:
Coordinating with local businesses and entrepreneurs for all local log sales and salvage contracts.
Managing salvage work, including pre-work, contracts, invoicing, follow-up, inspections, and post-harvest year-end reporting.
Overseeing local sales activities, including applications, log inventory, scaling, log inspections, invoicing, and boom cutoffs.

(Grade 3)
The Executive Assistant reports directly to the Chief Forester and assists in the development of policies and procedures at Taan Forest to strengthen and create efficiencies that are aligned with HaiCo’s strategic direction
Assists management in the development and implementation of communications strategies and tools for the implementation and rollout of strategic and corporate plan process and initiatives.
Participates on internal and external committees, working groups, and special projects as required.
Draft and support Taan’s strategic communications including presentations, annual operating plans, briefing notes in collaboration with the HaiCo management team.
Participate in the preparation of Taan’s business strategies, plans and procedures
Monitor and review grant funding opportunities and communicate these to relevant stakeholders.
With the involvement of management and staff, write and submit grant applications.
Monitor project progress against awarded grants and submit required progress reports.
Ensure that all records including contracts and values and are obtained, filed, and tracked
Meeting records for safety meetings, Taan Strategic and Operational Advisory Group meetings and others including tracking of action items.
Track Special Use Permits and other permitting deadlines

The Financial Accountant reports directly to the Haico Accounting Manager and is responsible for:
Prepare month-end closing process and journal entries
Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations
Prepare ad hoc reports for management as needed
Prepare lumber invoicing for customers
Prepare mill cut profitability schedules
Prepare sales tax (PST and GST) filings
Prepare monthly operating report analysis
Perform analytical support for operational costs
Facilitate standardization and streamlining of processes
Provide guidance to junior accounting staff

(Grade 3)
The log and lumber sales coordinator is responsible for managing the sales and distribution of logs and lumber products to various customers. The coordinator works closely with the sales, production, transportation, and accounting departments to ensure timely and accurate delivery of orders. The coordinator also maintains and updates the inventory records, customer database, and sales reports.
As part of their duties they must:
Coordinate and process customer orders, invoices, and payments
Communicate with customers and suppliers to confirm order details, delivery dates, and prices
Monitor and track the status of orders and shipments
Resolve any issues or complaints related to orders, deliveries, or quality
Prepare and analyze sales reports and forecasts
Maintain and update the inventory records and customer database
Assist with the development and implementation of sales and marketing strategies
Quickly resolving issues pertaining to export issues so that trucks or vessels can clear customs (minutes, not hours)
Perform other related duties as assigned
