Xaguu (Halibut) Design for Retail Packaging | Winner Announcement

We are excited to announce the winner of Haida Wild’s Xaguu halibut Retail Packaging artist callout. After careful deliberation, our panel of judges has chosen Yaatz K’ii Skyler Collison’s Xaguu design. Yaatz K’ii (sharp as a knife) is from Gaw Tlagée Old Massett and with his artistic vision and impeccable technique, has truly captured the essence of our contest’s theme.

“Halibut fishing for myself was a true coming of age milestone, like many others in our community. I began smaller scale fishing halibut for food, then as I got older, I began to work commercially fishing halibut all around Haida Gwaii on larger boats. Halibut fishing and processing has always and will always be a tradition that I value. My grandfather, great grandfather and many of my great uncles were halibut fishermen.”
