TRAINING OPPORTUNITY

We are excited to announce funding is secured for hospitality and tourism training!

You may have seen posts on our social media looking for people to apply for training in Masset in April and HlGaagilda Skidegate in July

HaiCo has been successful in receiving $250,000 of funding from the Government of British Columbia to provide hospitality and life skills training. This funding opportunity was originally secured in 2018 by the HaiCo’s Skills Development Coordinator Kung K_ayangas Marlene Liddle but the program did not proceed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. HaiCo was able to resubmit a new funding application at the end of 2021 and it was approved! We are grateful for Kung K_ayangas’ hard work and dedication to training and education. Háw’aa/haawa Kung K_ayangas.

The hospitality and tourism sector on Xaadáa Gwáay • Xaayda Gwaay.yaay Haida Gwaii is an important sector for the Haida Nation. This training program will bring additional opportunities for more individuals in a supported environment to acquire certifications and tools they need to secure and maintain meaningful employment.

The training program consists of nine weeks of occupational and essential skills training, two weeks of work experience, and one week of follow up support to prepare participants for employment in the local hospitality and tourism industry.

We are currently looking for caterers to make lunches for our students for the Masset cohort from April to June. We will be doing another advertisement for the HlGaagilda Skidegate cohort participants and caters for July to September. Stay tuned!

If you have any questions or are interested in participating as a student or caterer, please email ileah.mattice@haico.ca or text 250.922.5900.
